Unsolicited call. Recorded voice claiming that HMRC VAT inspectors have a case in my name. "Press 1 to speak to the investigating officer."
First, I cannot imagine why HMRC VAT inspectors would have a case on me. Second, if they did I really doubt the first I would hear of it would be a phone calls. Third, if it was them, surely they would try to ascertain my identify before they revealed that I was under investigation. This sort of spam call is very dangerous because the entire premise is a lie, and the scenario encourages you to engage with them to figure out what the issue is. I did not press 1 as requested; however, if I did, I suspect they would have tried to fish personal information from me. Always remember that when you receive a call, it could be anyone.
